How to Become a Facial Specialist in Florida
By Dermaline Academy · Published
Planning a career in skincare starts with understanding the difference between finishing school and receiving state registration. This guide summarizes the Florida DBPR checklist reviewed on October 22, 2026. Check the current official requirements before applying.
Complete the required education
Florida DBPR requires 220 school hours in a Florida facial specialty program. Schools can offer different program lengths and attendance arrangements, so compare the actual curriculum and practical training rather than hours alone.
Check eligibility and supporting documents
The DBPR checklist states that applicants must be at least 16 years old or have received a high school diploma. A school may have its own admission requirements. Ask admissions to explain its requirements separately from the state registration criteria.
The checklist also calls for an initial HIV/AIDS course certificate for a course of at least four hours completed within two years before application, a completed Certification of Eligibility, and a certificate of completion from the approved specialist training program.
Apply for state registration
Completing school does not automatically register you. Submit the DBPR application, required supporting documents, and applicable fee. The Florida cosmetology examination is not required for facial specialist registration. School assessments and completion requirements still apply.

Questions to bring to a school tour
Ask who will teach you, how practical work is supervised, how your attendance is recorded, what the total cost includes, and which documents you receive after successful completion. Review the catalog and enrollment agreement before committing.
